CONSUMER & CARER BURSARIES

With the support of our generous sponsors, we offer support to assist people with lived experience of mental illness (as a consumer or carer) to attend the 2024 Equally Well Forum.  This assistance will cover travel (within Australia), accommodation and meal expenses (maximum limits do apply).

Eligibility

To ensure a fair and transparent application process, bursary applicants need to meet the eligibility criteria below:

  • I have a lived experience of a mental health condition as a consumer and/or carer.
  • I am an Australian resident or permanent resident.
  • I do not have full-time employment.
  • I am experiencing genuine and immediate financial constraints that prevents me attending the forum without a bursary.
  • I am able to attend the event across the majority of the program.

Applications are open to any person with lived experience across Australia.  We also encourage applicants who can represent a range of specific population groups from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres straits islander, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, LGBTIQ, elderly and young people.

Selection

The bursaries are funded by a limited budget provided by sponsorship.  We always get more requests for financial support to participate than our funds allow.  As a result, bursaries will be awarded on a first in basis of those who fulfil the criteria and agree to the terms and conditions.

What does a bursary cover?

We are thrilled to provide these generous sponsored bursaries which cover travel, accommodation and meals.

There is limited official catering provided at the event but there are plenty of food and beverage options close by. The bursary includes an adequate daily meal allowance. This will be paid to recipients when you register at the event. Prepayment is not available and you may have to contribute to meal expenses prior to registering (or you may be reimbursed for some expenses?).

Equally Well will administer all bookings and payment of flights and accommodation.  Ground transport (including transfers) will be reimbursed with receipts up to a maximum amount of $200.00 (unless discussed and approved).  Receipts are to be submitted via email to ssharpe@csu.edu.au no later than Friday, 07 June 2024.  The reimbursement will be facilitated by Charles Sturt University Finance Department into your nominated bank via bank transfer and may take 14 days to process.

Bursaries do not cover personal expenses such as photocopying, IT, mini bar etc.

What does the application involve?

The application includes questions to gain an understanding as to why you would like to attend the event.  Some questions included in the form are to assist us in ensuring fair and equitable distribution of bursaries across our participant groups.  However, it is important that you only share information that you are comfortable sharing.  Information provided is confidential and will only be used by the event project team for the purpose of assessing eligibility criteria for allocating bursaries.

Terms & Conditions

To ensure funds provided by our sponsors for the bursaries are properly allocated and maximised, it is necessary recipients are aware of the eligibility criteria listed above.  If your change and you can no longer attend, please advise us immediately so we may offer the bursary to another applicant.
