Joseph Firth
Dr. Joseph Firth completed his PhD (Medicine) at the University of Manchester, U.K and has a BSc (1st Hons) in Psychology from the University of Sheffield, U.K. Currently, he is internationally ranked as one of the most highly-cited scientists in the fields of Digital Psychiatry and Lifestyle Medicine, having published over 250 peer-reviewed articles, including clinical interventions, qualitative research, evidence syntheses, meta-analyses, and epidemiological research projects, including numerous first-author pieces in high-impact journals such as The BMJ, Lancet Psychiatry, JAMA Psychiatry etc.
Dr. Firth also chaired the 2019 Lancet Commission on Physical Health in Mental Illness, and is the expert consultant in Mental Health for the World Health Organization’s physical activity guidelines. He was awarded The 2022 USERN Laureate for Social Sciences, the Clarivate™ World Highly Cited Researcher in Psychology / Psychiatry, and ExpertScape's "World Expert" accolade for his work in these fields. Currently, he is leading a 7-year programme of UKRI funded research, to examine how digital technologies can be used to support lifestyle interventions for young adults with psychiatric disorders, in order to improve both physical and mental health outcomes.
